Reference for Avaya Communications DEFINITY G3

Step 2: Installing the hardware for the switch and host connections to SwitchServer/2

After the DEFINITY G3 hardware and the ASAI CallVisor system software are installed and configured, you are ready to install the SwitchServer/2-to-host connectivity hardware and the SwitchServer/2-to-switch connectivity hardware in the PC.

Installing SwitchServer/2-to-host connectivity hardware

See the documentation that accompanied your hardware adapter for instructions on installing SwitchServer/2-to-host connectivity hardware.

Installing the SwitchServer/2-to-switch connectivity hardware

The hardware that connects the SwitchServer/2 to the DEFINITY G3 can be an Excelltech card or an Ethernet card.

Installing the Excelltech card

There are two Excelltech cards for SwitchServer/2-to-switch connectivity: one for PCs with ISA architecture and one for PCs with microchannel architecture. Because both cards are installed in the same manner, the following procedure can be used for either card.

Note:
The XLT DTA/MC card was formerly called the NCR ISDN BRI DTA/MC card.

To install the Excelltech card in the PC, do the following:

  1. Turn off the PC and unplug all cords and cables.
  2. Remove the cover from the PC system unit.
  3. Remove the PC expansion slot cover for the slot that you plan to use to install the Excelltech card.
  4. Install the Excelltech, Inc. card in the expansion slot by pressing the card into the slot connector until the card clicks into place.
  5. Secure the card in the slot by tightening the screw.
  6. Connect an ISDN cable to the connector on the Excelltech card. Connect the other end of the ISDN cable into the ISDN port configured on the DEFINITY G3.

If you have questions, contact your IBM Service Representative.

  7. Replace the PC cover and reconnect the cords and cables that were unplugged in Step 1.
  8. Restart the PC to activate the new hardware configuration.
    Note:
Refer to the documentation included with your machine for additional information about hardware options, then continue with Step 3: Installing OS/2 WARP Version 4.

Installing the Ethernet card

To install the Ethernet card in the IBM PC, do the following:

  1. Turn off the PC and unplug all cords and cables.
  2. Remove the cover from the PC system unit.
  3. Remove the PC expansion slot cover for the slot that you plan to use to install the Ethernet card.
  4. Install the Ethernet card in the expansion slot by pressing the card into the slot connector until the card clicks into place.

If you are installing an ISA Ethernet card, be sure to avoid settings that conflict with Interrupt Request (IRQ) settings of other devices in the system. Refer to the adapter card documentation for details about setting an IRQ value. Refer to your PC hardware documentation for specific information. Following is a typical PC IRQ usage chart:
    IRQ Usage
    0 Reserved (interval timer)
    1 Reserved (keyboard buffer full)
2 Reserved (cascade interrupt from subordinate programmable interrupt controller, PIC)
    3 Serial port COM2:
    4 Serial port COM1:
5* Available (audio cards or LPT2: may use this)
    6 Diskette drive A:
    7 Parallel port LPT1:
    8 Reserved (real-time clock)
    9* Available
10* Available (audio/modem card with a DSP may use this)
11+ Available (token ring or SCSI adapters may use this)
    12 Reserved (mouse port)
    13 Reserved (math co-processor)
14# Primary IDE hard drive controller
    15# Secondary IDE controller (CD-ROM)

    * indicates that this IRQ is usually available.

+ indicates that this is a typical IRQ used in ISA/PCI/EISA bus systems with SCSI hard drives. If IDE drives are used, an ISA token ring can use this interrupt.

    # indicates that this is a typical IRQ used on ISA/PCI bus systems with IDE hard drives or CD-ROM.

  5. Secure the card in the slot by tightening the screw.
  6. Connect the cable to the RJ45 connector on the Ethernet card.
  7. Connect the other end of the cable to the RJ45 connector on the 10BASE-T hub.
  8. Connect the hub using a single point-to-point connection to the DEFINITY G3.

If you have questions, contact your IBM Service Representative.

  9. Replace the PC cover and reconnect the cords and cables that were unplugged in Step 1.
  10. Restart the PC to activate the new hardware configuration.
    Note:
Refer to the documentation included with your machine for additional information about hardware options, then continue with Step 3: Installing OS/2 WARP Version 4.
