Reference for Avaya Communications DEFINITY G3
Install either the Excelltech or Ethernet card software depending on which
card is used for communications with the switch.
If you are installing Excelltech card software, refer to the procedure
appropriate for your PC architecture, as follows:
The XLT DTA/MC card is shipped with two installation diskettes when you
purchase it. These must be installed to enable SwitchServer/2 on a PC
with microchannel architecture to communicate with the DEFINITY G3.
To install the XLT DTA/MC card software on your PC, do the following:
- Insert the XLT DTA/MC installation diskette (1 of 2) into drive A.
- Open an OS/2 full-screen session.
- Type a: to make drive A the current drive.
- Type tasetup to install the XLT DTA/MC software.
- Type A from the main menu: Install the
software.
An informational screen is displayed. After reading it, press
Enter to continue.
- Type A to indicate the drive you are installing from.
- Press Enter to accept C:\ISDN as the default
drive and directory where you want the software installed. A warning
message might appear indicating that this directory already exists.
Type Y (yes) to the question of whether you want to continue
installing into that directory.
- Note:
- If you install into a directory other than C:\ISDN, be sure
the selected directory is specified in the PATH variable in the
CONFIG.SYS file.
- Type D to indicate the board you are using: XLT ISDN
DTA/MC.
- Type F to indicate the network type: No Layer
3.
After this option is chosen, the software will begin to install.
When prompted for the second diskette (diskette 2 of 2), place it in the
A: drive and press Enter to continue. After the second
diskette is loaded, a message will ask you if you want to continue.
- Press Enter to continue.
- Press Enter to update the CONFIG.SYS with the line
needed by the XLT DTA/MC card.
- Press ESC to bypass updating the STARTUP.CMD
file. This is not needed by the SwitchServer/2 product.
- The software is now installed. Press Enter to return to
the main menu.
- Press ESC to exit the installation program.
- Shut down your system and reboot.
- Verify that your PC loads the Excelltech ISDN driver during
rebooting.
The Excelltech XLT DTA adapter card is shipped with two installation
diskettes. These must be installed to enable SwitchServer/2 on a PC
with ISA architecture to communicate with the DEFINITY G3.
To install the Excelltech XLT DTA card on your PC, do the following:
- Insert the Excelltech installation diskette (1 of 2) into drive
A:.
- Open an OS/2 full-screen session.
- Type a: to make drive A the current drive.
- Type tasetup to install the XLT DTA software.
- Note:
- If you install into a directory other than C:\ISDN, be sure the
selected directory is specified in the PATH variable in the CONFIG.SYS
file.
- Type C to indicate the card you are using: XLT ISDN
DTA.
- Select the hardware configuration for the Excelltech ISDN card as
follows:
- Select an I/O address, such as 270-277, which is usually
available. Verify that the ISDN card jumper switch settings match your
selection.
- Select an available IRQ level, such as IRQ 5, which is usually
available. Verify that the ISDN card jumper switch settings match your
selection. Refer to your PC hardware documentation for specific
information. Following is a typical PC IRQ usage chart:
| IRQ
| Usage
|
| 0
| Reserved (interval timer)
|
| 1
| Reserved (keyboard buffer full)
|
| 2
| Reserved (cascade interrupt from subordinate programmable interrupt
controller, PIC)

| 4
| Serial port COM1:

| 8
| Reserved (real-time clock)
|
| 9*

* indicates that this IRQ is usually available.
+ indicates that this is a typical IRQ used in ISA/PCI/EISA bus systems
with SCSI hard drives. If IDE drives are used, an ISA token ring may
use this interrupt.
# indicates that this is a typical IRQ used on ISA/PCI bus systems with IDE
hard drives or CD-ROM.
- Select a shared memory address. Available values must
be obtained from the PC hardware documentation. Select an address and
verify that the ISDN card jumper switch settings match your selection.
- Type F to indicate the network type: No Layer
3.
After this option is selected, the software begins to install. When
prompted for the second diskette (diskette 2 of 2), place it in the
A drive and press Enter to continue. After the
second diskette is loaded, a message will prompt you to continue.
- Press Enter to continue.
- Press Enter to update the CONFIG.SYS file with the line
needed by the XLT DTA card.
- Press ESC to bypass updating the STARTUP.CMD
file. This is not needed by the SwitchServer/2 product.
- The software is now installed. Press Enter to return to
the main menu.
- Press ESC to exit the installation program.
- Shut down your system and reboot.
- Verify that your PC loads the Excelltech ISDN driver during
rebooting.
If the driver fails to load, do the following:
- Specify a different shared memory address as described in Step 9c, because this does not require removal of the card or
changes to the jumper settings.
- If that is not successful, change to the C:\ISDN directory and run
TASETUP to reconfigure the Excelltech card software.
- Select option B to reconfigure the software.
- Select option G to reconfigure the hardware.
- Press ESC three times to save the changes and quit.
- Repeat Step 16 and try again.
After installing OS/2 WARP Version 4, install TCP/IP to enable
communications between the SwitchServer/2 computer and the DEFINITY G3.
Then configure TCP/IP as follows:
- Select to autostart the PortMapper from the TCP/IP configuration so that
it will start whenever OS/2 WARP Version 4 is started.
- Edit the TCP/IP files to enable communication between the SwitchServer/2
and the DEFINITY G3. To edit the TCP/IP files, you must first know
their location. The location was specified in the CONFIG.SYS
file during TCP/IP installation. You can obtain this information by
typing set etc at the command prompt or by viewing the
CONFIG.SYS file.
For example, in the CONFIG.SYS file, you might see the
following:
- set etc=c:\mptn\etc
The location of the TCP/IP files is the directory specified just before
\etc in the set etc statement in the
CONFIG.SYS file; in this case, c:\mptn.
This directory will be referred to as <tcp_dir> in the remaining
steps.
To edit the TCP/IP files, do the following:
- Change to the <tcp_dir>\etc directory.
- Edit the HOSTS file by adding the following statement to the end of the
file:
- 192.168.25.10 DEFINITY
Caution:
This is the default IP address provided with the switch only for
the Ethernet connection between the switch and the server. Ensure that
the switch is protected from unauthorized external access, such as the
Internet.
- Edit the SERVICES file by adding the following statement to the end of the
file:
- ASAI_TCP 5678/tcp #G3 Switch
Notes:
- When adding the above statements, enter them exactly as shown since TCP/IP
files are case-sensitive.
- If SOCKS is required for your environment, update your TCP/IP
configuration by adding a direct route with the value of your local subnet
mask.
