Reference for Avaya Communications DEFINITY G3

Step 5: Installing the SwitchServer/2 program

Important: If you are upgrading a SwitchServer/2 system, you must perform the following tasks prior to installation:

  1. Back up all configuration files to a safe location.
  2. Rename the SwitchServer/2 installation directory.

Rename the C:\cpss2 directory to C:\cpss2bak. For example:

    ren C:\cpss2 C:\cpss2bak

Maintain this directory until you have verified that the new version of SwitchServer/2 is running properly.

After you install SwitchServer/2, copy the old configuration files into the new product directories. Information about configuration file names and locations is described above.

To install SwitchServer/2:

  1. Insert the Switch Dependent Connections CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Open an OS/2 window.
  3. Change to the root directory of the CD.
  4. Type setupos2 and press Enter.
  5. Follow the prompts to start the installation.

Notes:

  1. The CONFIG.SYS file contains the configuration options for your OS/2 environment. It describes the devices, optional features, and communications parameters installed on the workstation. The CONFIG.SYS is modified automatically to include the following changes: Consult the CallPath Services Reference manual for your switch for any switch-specific modifications to the CONFIG.SYS file. Changes to the CONFIG.SYS file do not take effect until you restart your system.

  2. The installation program automatically adds the following line to the OS/2 STARTUP.CMD file:
    START RCPPSS2.EXE

This entry causes SwitchServer/2 to be started automatically each time OS/2 is started. Additionally, this entry starts SwitchServer/2 in such a way that it automatically restarts when a critical error occurs. If you do not want SwitchServer/2 to automatically restart when a critical error occurs, you must change the line to:
    START CPSS2.EXE

If you do not want SwitchServer/2 to be automatically started when OS/2 is started, you should remove the line from the STARTUP.CMD file altogether. See the CallPath Services Reference manual for your switch for any additional switch-specific changes to the STARTUP.CMD file. Changes to the STARTUP.CMD file do not take effect until you restart your system.
