Step 5: Installing the CallPath Server for AIX-to-switch hardware for switch communications

Following is an overview of the tasks required for installing the necessary hardware for communications between CallPath Server for AIX and the DEFINITY G3:

Installing the Excelltech XLT DTA/MC or PCTA/MC card

Note:
The XLT DTA/MC card was formerly called the NCR ISDN BRI DTA/MC card.

To install the Excelltech XLT DTA/MC card or the PCTA/MC card in the RISC System/6000, do the following:

  1. Turn off the RISC System/6000 and unplug all cords and cables.
  2. Remove the cover from the RISC System/6000 system unit.
  3. Remove the RISC System/6000 expansion slot cover for the slot that you plan to use to install the XLT DTA/MC card or the PCTA/MC card. The card must be installed in one of slots 1-8.
  4. Install the XLT DTA/MC card or the PCTA/MC card in the expansion slot by pressing the card into the slot connector until the card clicks into place.
  5. Secure the card in the slot by tightening the screw.
  6. Connect an ISDN cable to the connector on the XLT DTA/MC or PCTA/MC card. Connect the other end of the ISDN cable into the ISDN port configured on the DEFINITY G3.

If you have questions, contact your IBM Service Representative.

  7. Replace the RISC System/6000 cover and reconnect the cords and cables that were unplugged in Step 1.
  8. Restart the RISC System/6000 to activate the new hardware configuration.

Continue with Installing the DEFINITY G3 Switch Connection.

Installing the Ethernet card

To install the Ethernet card in the RISC System/6000, do the following:

  1. Turn off the RISC System/6000 and unplug all cords and cables.
  2. Remove the cover from the system unit.
  3. Remove the expansion slot cover for the slot that you plan to use to install the Ethernet card.
  4. Install the Ethernet card in the expansion slot by pressing the card into the slot connector until the card clicks into place.
  5. Secure the card in the slot by tightening the screw.
  6. Connect the cable to the RJ45 connector on the Ethernet card.
  7. Connect the other end of the cable to the RJ45 connector on the 10BASE-T hub.
  8. Connect the hub using a single point-to-point connection to the DEFINITY G3. (This eliminates toll fraud.)

If you have questions, contact your IBM Service Representative.

  9. Replace the system unit cover and reconnect the cords and cables that were unplugged in Step 1.
  10. Restart the RISC System/6000 to activate the new hardware configuration.

Installing the DEFINITY G3 Switch Connection

DEFINITY G3 Switch Connection is provided in installp format, the AIX-standard automatic installation format. Refer to the Commands Reference for the version of AIX that you are using for more information about installp.

The DEFINITY G3 Switch Connection is installed from a separate CD. To install a DEFINITY G3 Switch Connection, do the following:

  1. Refer to the README file in the root directory of the Switch Dependent Connections CD for initial installation instructions.
  2. Copy the following install image to a directory of your choice:
    csag3.obj
After the install image is copied, you may prefer to use it to install the product by changing the directory to the "install directory" and issuing the following command:
    installp -acXF -d . csag3.obj
  3. Set up security (refer to the CallPath Server Planning, Installation, and Problem Determination Guide for additional information on configuring security).
  4. Give read, write, and execute permission to the files and the directory by typing all of the following commands:
    chmod g+rwx /usr/lpp/csasrvr/switchg3/*
    chmod g+rwx /usr/lpp/csasrvr/switchg3
    chmod g+rwx /usr/lpp/csasrvr/switchge/*
    chmod g+rwx /usr/lpp/csasrvr/switchge

Updating TCP/IP for Ethernet connection

The location of the TCP/IP files is typically the /etc directory. To edit the TCP/IP files, do the following:

  1. Change to the appropriate directory, which is typically /etc.
  2. Edit the hosts file by adding the following statement to the end of the file:
    192.168.25.10 definity

    Caution:
This is the default IP address provided with the switch only for the Ethernet connection between the Switch and the Server. Ensure that the switch is protected from unauthorized external access, such as the Internet.

  3. Edit the services file by adding the following statement to the end of the file:
    ASAI_TCP 5678/tcp #G3 Switch
Note:
When adding the above statements, type them exactly as shown because TCP/IP files are case-sensitive.

Setting up CallPath Server for AIX communications parameters

Before CallPath Server for AIX can communicate with the DEFINITY G3, the switch connection must be configured by recording the following information in CallPath Server for AIX:

Switch description
The name to be used in the CallPath Server Management Facility for the switch.

Auto-start
Whether CallPath Server for AIX should start communications with the switch automatically when the CallPath Server for AIX subsystem is started.

Restart on failure
Whether CallPath Server for AIX should restart communications with the switch automatically after a fatal error has terminated communications between CallPath Server for AIX and the switch.

Switch Parameters

The ISDN Adapter Number to be used for the DEFINITY G3 switch connection.

Separate procedures follow for configuring the DEFINITY G3 switch connection, using either the CallPath Server Management Facility or SMIT.
